Cold Weather Rule

You are here

  1. Safety
  2. Cold Weather Rule

The provisions of the Cold Weather Rule establish the disconnection procedures for any residential customer of the cooperative throughout the cold weather period, which extends from November 1-March 31 of each year.

Highlights of the rule are as follows:

  • The temperature must be 35 or above within the next 24-hour period
  • Bluestem will make a telephone call attempt the day prior to disconnection
  • Bluestem will make a personal contact attempt (knock on door) on the day of disconnection

If you require assistance with paying your utility bill, please dial 211 (toll free, statewide, 24 hours, 7 days a week). Provide your zip code and ask for utility assistance. You may also visit www.211kansas.org. 211 Kansas provides you with a list of the agencies in your area that might be able to provide assistance.
